The 2009 Covered Bridge Metric Century was a huge success again this year, thanks to the amazing efforts of our volunteers and thanks to the support for everyone who came to ride. This was a record breaking year with the attendance coming in at 4,105 riders.
Unfortunately, the joy of that day was shattered by a horrific tragedy. As many of you may or may not have heard, there was a fatality during the ride. At the time of this posting the family has not released the name of this individual and we will honor that silence, however what can be told is that this individual apparently lost control of his bicycle, went over the handlebars and died from massive head injuries. He was alone at the time of the accident, therefore no one witnessed this horrible event.
This was a tragic accident and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family at this time.
