Weather: 45 deg - wind 30mph - heavy overcast with
occasional light rain I drove down to hand out cue sheets with no
intention of riding myself. I figured there would be some die-hards ready
to ride. And what to my surprise only one other person showed up. He
decided not to ride either. Riders: John Peregoy

Pretty nice early spring morning for a ride. Temps
in the high 40s at the start. Thirteen riders showed up for this 16 mph pace
ride. Welcome to new club member Warren Buch. I took one look at
this group and could tell I was gonna be leading from the back if I was to keep
the pace at the 16 mph that was posted. The ride started with a fairly
strong head wind and to my surprise the group stayed pretty much together. Then
about half way through the ride the head wind turned into a tail wind and the
majority of the group checked out. I believe everybody completed the ride
without incident. I was told the lead group finished at an 18mph
pace. I led from the rear with one other rider and we finished at a
15.9 mph pace. Riders: Damon Schlott (leader), Warren Buch, Brian
Mitchell, Ed Fearnow, Craig Shreiner, David Hooper, Joe Bucek, Bob
Colton, Tony DeNunzo, Curtis Palmer, Bill Ressel, John Donati, and Cindy
Davis.
Rapturous Ride (D) Apr
9
Fifteen riders turned out on a beautiful Saturday
morning. Sunny and temperatures in the low 60's. Daffodils and
hyacinths in full bloom with green grass and the farmers plowing their fields
on horse drawn plows, the sights and smells of SPRING at last. Welcome
new member Carrie on her first LBC ride, we heard her Mother also joined but
could not make it today, so we hope to ride with her in the near future.
Thanks everyone for a great time and good conversations. No flats, falls
or lost rider. Riders: Judy Flowers (Leader), David Flower ( Sweep),
Dottie Sheehy, Phil Wright, Jim Payton, Carrie Neile, Barb Koppenhafer, Karen
Drawbaugh, Judy & Alan Hurlbut, Steve Mentzer, Michael Riggi, Carol
Weisser, Dave & Lisa Heck.
New Witness Tree Trek (C) Apr

Tour de Marietta (B) Apr 10 Nice day, large group of
fast riders. I kept waiting for them to pass me but it took a while. Lew and I
figured on a slower pace but then caught a group. Yes, they were changing a
tire but we still caught up with them. I flatted on the gravel on Rt 230 and
our small group broke up then and when several others headed for home instead
of the school. Couldn't account for one car with a bike rack still at the
school until I saw the sign up sheet had a late addition, sorry we missed you
Nancy. Riders: Lou Gray (leader), John Donati, Craig Shreiner, Ed Fearnow,
Steve Gerber, Tim Good, Jim Ness, Emily McKeon, Lew Hershey, Vaughn Good, Joyce
Good, Jack Bingham, Sylvia Weaver, Diane Lausman, Warren Buch, Brian Mitchell,
Paul Smeltz, Bill Ressel, Jude Sharp, Sally Higgins, and Nancy Youst.

Tronsor, Harry Campbell, Dottie Sheehy, John Cardos, Eileen Mazeski, Steve

Meadow View Ride (C) April
16
The day was beautiful as an enthusiastic group consisting
of some veteran Meadow Viewers and a few newcomers to this route (and to the C
group) headed for the hills from the parking lot at East Pete. By the
first roller it seemed that every uphill had a headwind, but the downhills that
followed were worth it. We lost one rider who opted out just before The
Big One on Bricker Road and detoured to Mount Joy to wait for sag support from
his spouse. (My apologies to all for underestimating the size and quantity of
the remaining hills after that point I didn’t have time to preview
the ride and refresh my memory!) The ride was otherwise (and thankfully)
uneventful. We finished the ride at a pace (13.2) slightly higher than
advertised (oops!), but after a challenging route, we now know what our
individual fitness levels are (or aren’t!) going into the season. I
hope Eleanor finally got her coffee and everyone enjoyed the rest of a
spectacular spring day. Riders: Candae Deen (filling in for Jeff
DeLong as leader), Jim White, Jim Wentz, David Wentz, Don Whitehead (sweep),
Kim Lausch, Matt London, Ed Fearnow, Bobbi Fearnow, Dave Kessler, Bob Brader,
Tom Mellinger, Heidi Hendrix, and Eleanor Nuffort.
Warrior's Revenge (A) Apr 16 Riders: Marlin Hess
(leader), Mark Buckwalter, Jerre Hockenbrocht, Brian Sowatsky, Scott Wagner,
Barry Levender, Tim Norejko and Rick Lehman
East Pete West (D) Apr 16 Another wonderful spring day
for riding. Several riders from last fall returning after a long winter.
Riders: Jim Payton (leader), Karen Drawbaugh (sweep), Anne Schleef, Jill
MacKenzie, John Cardos, Judy Hurlbut, Alan Hurlbut, Carrie Neiles, Janielle
Willemin, John Rohrkemper, Pam Tronsor, Connie Simmons, and Alta Nolt.
Roots Auction and Return
(B) Apr 17
Another perfect day for cycling, even warmer than
yesterday, with many riders trading yesterday’s long tights for shorts
and others shedding layers in the parking lot before we left. I wish I
could report all kinds of hilarious and entertaining anecdotes for this
ride. Unfortunately, the only incident I can conjure up was at the 5-mile
mark, when both Mark Delp and I had water bottle problems. By the time he
retrieved his and I got the cap back on mine, we were stuck waiting to cross
the Oregon Pike, and that was the last we saw of the rest of the group till the
parking lot. (Not exactly hilarious and entertaining.) We did pick
up Jim Forster at the golf course, so the three of us battled the headwind
together to the end of the ride. The wind didn’t seem to affect the
lead group, who came in with an 18+ average. Riders: Jim Forster,
Steve Gerber, Don Whitehead, Mark Delp, Candae Deen (leader), Rick Paparo, Andy
Charles, Tom Debiec, Ed Fernow, Lauren Lane, Brian Mitchell, Matt London, Jack
Bingham, Emily McKeon, Sally Higgins, Scott Wagner, Bill Ressel, Jude
Sharp.
Giro d' Earl (A) Apr 17 The riders stayed together for
the majority of this tour through Brownstown, Farmersville, and Voganville.
Powering over Farmersville road under a brilliant blue sky, in bone dry air,
and with a light tailwind, the frisky bunch even had some time for casual
conversation. Along Creek road, a brief mingling with the B riders, who started
from Catholic High at 10:00, made everyone feel like showing some muscle. Cindy
had some tire trouble about halfway into the ride and Warren, thinking he
wasn't very good on hills, finished with the lead pack after powering away near
the airport circle. At the end of the ride, there was a lively discussion about
$5,500 Lightweight Obermayer wheels and the Triplets of Belleville DVD. Riders:
Bob Colton (leader), Damon Schlott, Warren Buch, Curtis Palmer, Dirk Suereth,
Cindy Davis, John Donati (?), Barry Levender, and Ken Lessans.
Roots Auction & Return (B) Apr 17 Riders: Candae
Deen (leader), Jim Forster, Steve Gerber, Don Whitehead, Mark Delp, Rick
Paparo, Andy Charles, Ed Fearnow, Lauren Lane, Brian Mitchell, Matt London,
Jack Bingham, Emily McKeon, Scott Wagner, Bill Ressel, Judy Sharp, and non-LBC
members Tom Debiec and Sally Higgin (?)
Tour de Marietta (C) Apr 17 We had a beautiful day for
ride. It was good to have Lou's son, Ben, join us. The group did a pretty good
job of staying together until a couple of miles from the end-then the group
opened up a bit. I did my best to keep them together but I couldn't hold 'em
back. Riders: Mike Gibson (leader), Tim Good, Bill Crawford, John Gantz, John
Mullineaux, Lou Gray, Sylvia Newcomer, Mary Stadden and non-LBC member Ben
Gray.
Muggles Meander (D) Apr 17 Beautiful day for a ride.
Great group. Generally, all maintained pace, and stayed together. Welcomed new
rider Ken Rebstock. He did a great job keeping pace. This year's new and
improved Brian Holland set an awesome pace on his first ride this season.
Looking forward to many more repeats of this kind of riding. Riders: Karen
Drawbaugh (leader), Tony LaRosa (sweep), Cindy Snyder, Steve Snyder, Jim
Payton, Pam Klingensmith, Barb Koppenhafer, Ray Landis, Anne Schleef, Brian
Holland, Steve Holland, Tom Mellinger, Joe Knepper, Beth Hendrix, Lew Hershey,
Dave Kessler, and non-LBC member Ken Rebstock.
CVHS Morgantown (B) Apr 23 Only two riders showed on
this soggy, cloudy morning for this 51 mile ride. The ride started with wet
roads. Then it became wet roads and light rain. Once the rain stopped it became
breezy and the roads quickly dried. There were even some breaks of sun. We made
a stop at Shirks Bike Shop. This was Curtis's first visit. His eyes lit up like
a kids in a candy store. Temps were in the mid 60's. No spills, no flats. We
all finished together at a 16.3 pace. Riders: Damon Schlott (leader), Curtis
Palmer, and Scott Wagner.
Ride To Manheim (Long) (C) Apr 23 Weather: Cloudy,
Cool, RAIN Cecis Good called to see if the ride was still on and David advised
her I was on my way on the bike. She decided due to rain starting at her place
not to go. Roads were wet on ride there and rain started on my ride home.
Riders: Judy Flowers, (leader)
Buena Vista Short (D) Apr 23 I guess a night of rain
followed by fog and wet roads destroyed all enthusiasm for a Saturday a.m.
ride. Maybe tomorrow will be better! Riders: Steve Holland (leader)
Mt Airy Ride (A) Apr 23 Rain, Rain, Rain No ride to Mt.
Airy. Riders: Ron Pfautz (leader)

and windy when we started the ride. Five miles into the ride it started to rain
so we turned around and came back. Riders: John Peregoy (leader), Mike Gibson,
John Mullineaux, Ray Landis, John Gantz, Lew Hershey, and non-LBC members
Andrea Lemmon and Bill Ressel.
Landis Valley Ride (D) Apr 24 After a week of wonderful
weather with temperatures up to the 80's, a cold front moved in and brought
temps in the 50's, rain and wind. I was surprised at the turn out on an
unpleasant looking afternoon. It was nice to see some new riders, scouts and
their leaders from troop 156 in Brunnerville. Riders: Tom Mellinger (leader),
Tony LaRosa (sweep), Karen Drawbaugh, Jim Payton, Barb Koppenhafer, Steve
Holland, Ellen Koppenhafer, Harry Campbell, Judy Hurlbut, Rick McCord, Michael

Ken Stadden and Ken Lessans
