The last time trial of the year was held September 3, a fantastic way to start the Labor Day weekend! It was a warm night, but not much wind, so a good night to ride. Once again, Andrew reversed the order of the heats, having the slower group go first, while the fast group went out on the course and directed traffic at the corners. The first heat riders then worked the course for the faster riders. The second heat had spectators as a group of young cyclists perched on the Turtle Hill bridge and watched the speed demons go by. We told them to practice and they would be the time trialers of the future! Daryl Weaver took top honors in the September race. Among the women, Lisa Gonzalez went for the three-peat with the fastest time for the third consecutive race. The five race season had a large turnout, with a total of 75 people participating in at least one race. It was a great way to see how fitness improves over the season. The weather was generally good. Rain and drizzle during the second race kept the turnout low, but we were lucky on the other nights. Matt Dishart set the new course record in the July race with a screaming 14:56 ride. Race participation was: #1-34, #2-10, #3-38, #4-33, and #5-35. Three people rode all five races, and 10 rode 4 of the 5. For the men, Matt Dishart had the two fastest times, with Daryl Weaver taking the third as he nipped Matt by a second in the last race. For the women, Lisa Gonzalez clocked all three of the fastest times, with Eileen Crone just a few seconds behind. Many thanks to Andrew Mead and Neil Crone for taking the time to put on this event!
