LBC 2007 Time Trial Series
The final event of the 2007 LBC Individual
Time Trial series was held on September 6. A bothersome wind that challenged
participants during warm-up died down as the timers started providing near-ideal
conditions. Temperature was in the low 80s with plenty of humidity.
A large field, including three in the women’s division, came out for fun and to
test their training effectiveness at season end. Welcome to all the newcomers.
Andy Ayers rocketed around the 6.6 mile course to set the fastest time of the day;
he had plenty of competition in the 15-minute bracket. Jonathan Lehman and
Brian Martin saw the biggest improvements over their last time. Mike Lutz
was briefly detained during his run to discuss course rules with a local enforcement
official. He still managed a respectable time. Our event was marred
somewhat by a group of projectile-tossing individuals in a green pickup truck.
At least two riders were struck by shoes and ice tea bottles. Word has it
that another cyclist (non-participant) crashed and was injured as a result of being
struck by a ½ gallon tea jug!

That’s
all for the 2007 TT series. The 2008 series will commence in May. Watch the
Pedaller and the website for details.
I would
like to thank all those who have participated, helped, and come out to cheer during
the year. Finally, I would like to thank Neil Crone for all his assistance
in making the TT run so smoothly. Andrew Mead
Next year, on the first Thursday of the month from May through September meet at the Brownstown Vo-Tech at 6:00pm for sign-up. First rider is usually on course by 6:20pm.
The course gently rolls around Brownstown and
Farmersville for 6.6 miles (10.7k). A map is available
here.
All are welcome. Only one rule: helmets are required. Come out and test yourself against the clock.
Participating over the entire season allows easy
comparision of relative fitness levels. If you don't want to ride, come out anyway. We can always use helpers and cheerleaders.
Contact Andrew Mead with questions (admead@gmail.com).
